What is a good telescope for a ten year old child?

by kern.justin
Question by ccisa3@sbcglobal.net: What is a good telescope for a ten year old child?
My son wants one for Christmas. I have found tons on Ebay in different price ranges, of course-but I have no clue what is junk and what is good. I don't want to spend hundreds on his first one because I am not positive how far he will go with Astronomy. I need to get it ordered in the next couple of days so I can get it on time. Thanks for any ideas.

What part of a telescope or observatory corresponds most closely to the parts of your eye; iris, cornea, pupil?

Question by Elle Antoinette: What part of a telescope or observatory corresponds most closely to the parts of your eye; iris, cornea, pupil?
lens, retina, rods, fovea, brain?

Best answer:
Answer by Search first before you ask itThe objective (lens in a refractor, mirror in a reflector) correspond to the pupil of the eye. Thus when calculating the light increase of a telescope aperture over the human eye, the pupil is what is used to compare.

The cornea would be the telescope dome. The

UFO - Above & Beyond

UFO - Above & Beyond. James Doohan - "Scotty" from Star Trek - hosts this documentary that contains some of the best examples of UFO footage. It rehashes classic events or ancient cave paintings depicting alien craft and entities, as well as more contemporary sightings and oddities - such as events seen over Phoenix, Miami and Las Vegas. Which makes this documentary stand out are perhaps the moon shots, photos of UFOs on and around the moon and the space shuttles.Author: pignanelli65Source:

UFOs: Sorry, Interstellar Space Travel Is Just Pure Bunk!

According to many scientists, especially when it comes to the exploration, migration and colonization throughout the cosmos by extraterrestrial intelligences, outer space is your ultimate no-man's-land and quarantine zone. No exploration; no migration; no colonization. Any intelligent life is pretty much going to be confined to their very own planetary abode or solar system.

Astronomical Hide & Seek: Planet X, It wasn't there

Astronomers study objects we assume are really there. But sometimes they're not. A few months ago we mentioned rainbows, which stirred some controversy. Are they there7. Sort of. A rainbow is nothing but a group of light rays converging on your eyes. It has no solidity. It cannot cast a

Can I take an Astronomy course online?

Question by Waverly: Can I take an Astronomy course online?
I am a current Senior in high school, and I just want to take an Astronomy class for fun. I tried looking around my local community colleges, but unfortunately the classes are offered during my schooling hours. I mean, is it too much to ask if I want to study Astronomy and get credit for it at the same time?

HOW can I do this? My school counselor has not been much of a help. I don't want to do the class through a college, because

Flight News On Corporate Business VIP Jets Flights

Thanks to evolving technology any jet can now be considered as an executive or VIP transport. Size is of no consequence and can range from the small personal jet up to the leviathans, such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380.
Consequently there is an overlap in classification with some jets that used to be called VLJs now defined as light or entry-level jets.
The one common theme connecting them all has been the global economic problems of recent years. The economic situation has led to massive
